Within the framework of the directives of Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, to fasten implementing  projects to improve the solid waste system in the governorates of Gharbia, Kafr El Sheikh and Dakahlia, the water quality improvement project team at the Kitchener sewer (solid waste component) implemented by the Ministry, funded by a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development worth 79 million euros and a grant from the European Union worth 8 million euros, organized field visits to companies wishing to apply for the tender, which was launched on 27 September 2022, on The electronic contracting platform of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to establish a number of 4 solid waste recycling and treatment plants in the center of Belkas in Dakahlia governorate, and the centers of Hamoul, Kafr al-Sheikh and Desouq in the governorate of Kafr al-Sheikh with a design capacity of 600 tons / day.
And explained that the offering process is carried out through the electronic contracting platform of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, within the framework of the implementation of the approved investment plan to raise the efficiency of the municipal waste management system, stressing the importance of this project, which comes within the framework of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to the government to improve the quality of water in the bank on the basis of specific plans, to deal with sanitation, solid waste and other aspects of the bank sector, which contributes to the improvement of The health and environmental conditions of the residents of the areas located within the scope of the bank.
The Minister of Local Development added that the project aims to establish recycling and treatment plants for solid waste and intermediate stations, rehabilitation and closure of random dumps, rehabilitation of garages and the purchase of equipment for the collection and transportation of waste  in the centres, towns and villages of Kitchener sewer, which number about 11 million citizens, live in 182 villages in the three governorates.
